High voltage starts where signal voltage stops.

For cables U_max is the maximum DC voltage value or the peak AC voltage. In sinusoidal voltages the rms value amounts to 1/SQR(2) of the peak voltage. The cable test voltage is significantly higher. In connectors must distinguish between the dielectric strength at completed connectors (plugged counterpart) and nonclosed (open) connectors. The uncompleted connectors voltage stability is much lower, because leakage currents can build on the outside. Example: SHV-Connector U_max completed 9 kV DC, non-closed 3,5 kV DC.

Applications: Measurement, internal wiring or for outdoor use, suitable for general application of high-voltage.
